I hate shopping for greeting cards. Hate, hate, hate. Ten minutes trawling the aisles at the local CVS is, for me, something on the order of Rimbaud's season in hell. In this, I know, I am not alone; much ink has been spilled in evisceration of the greeting card industry and the often noxious stereotypes it trades upon--that men are careless louts; that women, especially unmarried ones, are vain, petty creatures; that aging is to be feared, scorned, and feared once more; and perhaps most killingly, that nearly every sentiment must proceed directly from the grand American font of guilt (e.g., "should have sent this a long time ago," "I don't tell you nearly often enough how much I love you," etc.).
And yet, to the card aisle we go. And along with our wallets, we bring our own sense of what truths perhaps are inalienable. If you were to argue, for instance, that a little appreciation for Mom always goes a long, long way, well, you wouldn't get any backtalk from this corner. Most moms, even the $3.99 greeting card uber-Mom who keeps a home, cooks 21 meals and 7 snacks a week, and tucks her kids into bed, deserve every last bit of thanks and heart sent their way on Mother's Day, or any other's day.
And most homes, this spring, could use a little or a lot of what we'll euphemistically and topically call a mother's touch. At Catchlight, we live to do just that, to nurture your space, restore your color, make things better, and delight you.
You know...just like Mom. Catchlight: Mom's Exterior Painter.
